Hi! My name is Jocelyn, and I am currently a senior in high school. I am an art and sustainability enthusiast as well as extremely passionate about the field of business.
At a young age, I was inspired by my immigrant parents who were able to start a company from nothing. My mom would work tirelessly, even getting a part time job at a daycare so she could learn and practice English in order to give me and my sister an easier time when dealing with school events like parent teacher conferences. My dad was rarely home, but he would sometimes bring me on small business trips where I watched him negotiate with clients. Being involved in the family business sparked my interest in entrepreneurship, marketing, economics, and business management. Even now, I try to help my dad by editing documents and emails despite my busy schedule with school and athletics.
It is expected for teenagers to figure out their lives and careers in less than 4 years. The words “passion” and “career” seem more daunting than exciting. Almost two-thirds of students feel overwhelmed by the process of selecting a major as many are not confident in their career path. Fortunately, I have figured out my passions and aspirations, and I believe that this clarity came to me because I was able to engage in a variety of real-life experiences through my father’s business. But, I know that many students in high school do not know what they want to pursue. Uncertainty has caused job unhappiness to be at an all-time high; Gallup’s State of the Global Workplace report for 2022 found that 60% of people reported being emotionally detached at work and 19% as being miserable.
I created A Dive Into Business with the intention of helping confused high school students who are unsure of what they want to do in the future. Combining my love for art and passion for business, I create educational animatics about different business concentrations and current events. My mission is to give insight into a variety of topics including business management, marketing, finance, economics, entrepreneurship, and more to high schoolers, especially encouraging women and people of color in order to confidently go into this field they’re truly passionate about.
